Testimonials
“Working Lands Trust embodies the spirit of community resilience through sustainable forestry,
ensuring that our forests not only thrive but serve as vibrant ecosystems and economic engines. Their dedication to community-supported forestry models is a testament to the power of collaboration in safeguarding our natural heritage for generations to come”.Teal Edelen, Program Officer at the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities

The 31acre farm I inherited in 2011 is all what is left of an approximately 320 acre farm dating back to the late 1700’s. Over time the remaining 289 acres has been partialed off and sold as individual home sites. I had become increasingly concerned as to how I could be assured the portion I owned would remain a family farm and never be subdivided. In 2022 I was introduced to the Working Lands Trust Program (WLTP) and my concerns were put to rest. The WLTP has provided me with an assurance the farm will remain as a working farm for perpetuity. I urge all individuals who are concerned with the future of North Carolina’s as well as America’s diminishing farmland to contact their WLTP. I want to thank Mikey Fulk & Lisa Shjealy of the WLTP as well as Scott Shoulders & J. David Austin for their help and patience with me placing the Stalcup-Page-Jackson Farm on the North Carolina Agriculture Department Farmland Preservation list.

As a farmer, I was concerned about the impact of development on our rural landscape. Working Land Trust (WLT) helped us find a solution that balanced our needs with the need to protect the environment. We’re grateful for their expertise and commitment to land conservation.

The “Working Land Trust” was an opportunity for us as owners to keep the integrity of our beautiful farmland available for future generations. It is through programs like The Working Land Trust that made this possible. Thank you to Lisa Shealy for walking us through the application.
